Overview
The platform enables users to search for dining options and events based on cuisine type, location, and time, completing the reservation process seamlessly on a single website.
Background
Role
Context
As a UX Designer, I developed a search and reservation platform targeting specific cities for restaurants and food-related events. The platform enables users to search for dining options and events based on cuisine type, location, and time, completing the reservation process seamlessly on a single website.
This project involved creating a highly intuitive and visually appealing interface to enhance user engagement and satisfaction.
I led the UX design for a search and reservation platform focused on restaurants and food-related events in specific cities. Users can effortlessly search for dining options and events by cuisine type, location, and time, and complete reservations directly on the website.
The Goal
We initiated the project by addressing the small frustrations that users often encounter in daily life, with the key goal of creating a service that is seamless and enjoyable for every individual user.
- Meeting Exact Needs: To avoid letting the creator's bias influence the design, we focused on building a product that addresses the precise needs of users through detailed analysis and continuous feedback.
- Ultimate Simplicity: Our goal was to create a website that is intuitive and easy to navigate, welcoming a wide range of users without barriers or complexity.
My contribution
My responsibilities included user research, wireframing, prototyping, and usability testing. The platform integrates secure reservation systems and is designed for scalability, allowing for future updates based on user feedback and evolving business needs.
PROCESS
- User Research: Conducted surveys and interviews to gather insights into user preferences and behaviors.
- Journey Mapping: Created detailed user journey maps to visualize the user experience and identify pain points.
- Persona Development: Developed user personas to represent the target audience's psychological states and preferences.
- Wireframing: Designed low-fidelity and high-fidelity wireframes to outline the structure and functionality of the platform. Utilized tools like Sketch and Adobe XD to create initial designs
RESEARCH
Competitive Analysis
We selected three major websites that provide event booking and restaurant information, and compared their advantages and drawbacks. While all of them offered the essential features that users expect, few had user-friendly navigation and flow design.
Survey & Findings
What is the biggest barrier to going to restaurants?
We created and surveyed 17 questions, receiving 17 responses. The results indicated that the biggest challenge in making restaurant reservations was the lack of online booking options. The top concerns for attending events were options, location, and admission fees.
Persona
Based on these assumptions and research results, a user persona of Jasmine was developed.
She is looking for a restaurant to have dinner with friends, but does not know much about it because she recently moved downtown. While browsing Instagram, she sees an ad for this website, and when she searches for a restaurant on the website, she makes a reservation because the website meets her needs, such as displaying food options and searching by area.
IDEATION
Sitemap
Based on research and persona discovery, I brainstormed, compiled, and organized the necessary website content and functionality. The primary goal of the website is to guide users to complete a reservation or purchase event tickets. Therefore, I designed a clear and simple sitemap to ensure the reservation process is as straightforward as possible.
User Flow
I created the user task flow for the event registartion process or booking restaurants, that is one of the most important site’s functionality.
Wireframes
I outlined the information needed to achieve the user story and usually started with sketching. Afterwards, I moved to Figma and wireframed all of the screens.
IMPACT
As part of a workshop, I developed this fictional website within a limited timeframe. While constrained to the design process, I aspire to engage in longer-term projects involving design and user testing.
One of the key learnings from this project is the significant impact of early user persona development on subsequent production processes. Having previously worked extensively with clients, this project afforded me the opportunity to focus on clear communication and envisioning precise user profiles in the context of developing a proprietary product.
